Must Watch Horror Movies

Must watch Horror Movies

We love nothing more than turning the lights down, grabbing the popcorn and putting a horror movie on the television. There is something addictive about the tension, jumps and scares that keep all of us coming back for more. But, like you, we have wasted so much of our time on bad horror movies.

We got sick of flicking through Netflix or Amazon and coming across so many cheap scare titles with storylines that have been done over and over again. So, we created this list. We’ve looked at the construction of these movies, which has the best production, effects, and of course the best horror movie villains.

Check out our list of the best and must watch horror movies below, and start working your way through them. You won’t regret it!

The Best Horror Movies of All Time: The Shining

No list of the best would be complete without The Shining. Premiering in 1980, the movie has gone on to become a cult classic. It was way ahead of its time with production, with the Colorado hotel being perfectly converted into a house of horrors.

The Shining created one of the most famous special effect scenes of all time. The blood-filled elevators and sea of red are etched into the minds of anybody who has had the pleasure of watching this one. It looked an absolute blast to work on, and Stanley Kubrick did an amazing job bringing the story to life for the big screen.

Best Zombie Movie

28 days later

Zombie movies have been overdone, and most of them are seriously bad. But 28 Days Later has earned its spot on this list for portraying the apocalypse in an impressive way. What is unique about the storyline is that the dead don’t come back to life, but living humans are infected with a ‘sickness’ instead. This was a new twist on the zombie theme and has been copied many times since.

The makeup and special effects are what make 28 Days Later the classic that it is. Those infected with the Rage Virus look seriously scary, and this is all thanks to talented makeup artists and a whole load of fake blood. Although not as successful as the original, 28 Weeks Later was also a great sequel.

Paranormal Movies

Paranormal movies are an absolute favourite with horror fans. Perhaps the most famous of all time being Poltergeist from back in 1982. Although we love this movie, we opted to list Paranormal Activity as our number one in this countdown. A movie that made $193 million from $15,000 deserves huge recognition. The first-person video camera concept is genius, it’s low-budget and adds to the creepiness. Not only was it a resounding success, but it was done using the most basic of productions.

Paranormal Activity went on to be somewhat of a franchise, with 5 further movies released between 2007 and 2015. There are, of course, many more must-watch horror movies out there, but we’ve whittled it down to our top 3 for your viewing pleasure.
